USSD runs mobile money, bill payments, registrations and support lines across Africa. It works on every phone and needs no data, which is why the services people rely on most still use it.

Building one has not changed much. Each aggregator sends requests in its own format, the whole reply history arrives as one string, and every menu change means editing branches in a handler. Teams rebuild the same plumbing for each service.

Asterisks replaces that plumbing with a canvas. You draw the screens, the engine runs the session and speaks to Hubtel, Nalo, Arkesel and Africa's Talking, and your backend answers only the questions that need your data.
